As part of a Master's thesis at the Institute of Biology at Freie Universität Berlin, the training situation in the field of veterinary behavioural medicine and therapy, as well as its implementation in veterinary practice in Germany, is being investigated.

According to the German Federal Chamber of Veterinary Surgeons (as of September 2022, translated from German):

"The field of 'Behavioural Science' encompasses the preventive and curative care of animals and animal populations from an ethological perspective, the behaviourally appropriate design of animal husbandry systems, advice and therapy in the context of behavioural disorders in veterinary practice for domestic animals and wild animals in human care ."

According to the German Federal Chamber of Veterinary Surgeons (as of September 2022, translated from German):

"The scope of 'animal behaviour therapy for small animals' includes the prophylaxis, diagnosis, and therapy of behavioural deviations and disorders in animals in conjunction with ensuring species-appropriate and behaviourally appropriate husbandry, care, and nutrition, and the consultation and training of animal owners. The scope of duties includes the treatment of animal species encountered in small animal practice."

This survey is configured so that no personal data is collected. In particular, the following data is not collected:

  • No IP addresses are stored.
  • No cookies were set that would allow identification.
  • No login or registration required
  • and participation is recorded completely anonymously.

The collected response data therefore does not allow any conclusions to be drawn about you personally. Assigning responses to individual persons is neither intended nor technically possible.

If this survey collects personal data (e.g., email address for follow-up questions or participation in the prize draw), this will be explicitly indicated at the relevant point. In this case, sections 3–7 of this statement apply. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(a) GDPR in conjunction with Section 17 of the Berlin Data Protection Act (BlnDSG).

3. Purpose of data processing

If personal data is processed, this is done exclusively for the purpose of investigating the current situation of veterinary behavioral medicine training and its implementation in practice in Germany within the framework of scientific research in accordance with Art. 89 GDPR, as well as for the development of evidence-based information and advisory services (e.g. specialist information or training materials) based on the research results.

4. Data Sharing

Results may be published in scientific publications or public information services (e.g., specialist information, calculation tools). Such publications will use only aggregated or fully anonymized data that does not allow any conclusions to be drawn about individual persons. Data will not be transmitted to regulatory authorities.

5. Storage duration

Anonymous survey data (no personal information) is not subject to any data protection-related deletion requirements. In accordance with the guidelines of Good Scientific Practice (GWP), it is archived for at least 10 years on access-protected servers at the Free University of Berlin.

If, in exceptional cases, personal data has been collected, it will be deleted as soon as it is no longer required for the above-mentioned purpose and there are no legal retention obligations preventing its deletion (§ 17 para. 2 BlnDSG).

6. Your rights (regarding the processing of personal data)

If and to the extent that your personal data is processed, you have the following rights:

Exercising these rights requires that the stored data can be linked to you personally. This is not the case with completely anonymous data collection.
